We are pleased to release the findings of our most recent research project designed to help us better understand what sustainable tourism in New Zealand should look like.
We interviewed 15 participants via zoom and email during and after the COVID-19 lockdown in New Zealand. Participants were from different sectors of the industry, including university researchers, tourism operators, and industry representatives.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented challenge for tourism, but has also presented a unique opportunity to reset and reimagine tourism in New Zealand. We hope that the findings of this research will contribute to the conversation about where New Zealand tourism is heading, and how we can use this moment of pause for the industry to build back a more sustainable, innovative and resilient industry.
The key findings of this research highlight some of the opportunities New Zealand’s tourism industry has to establish ourselves as world leaders in sustainable tourism.
The findings can be downloaded as a PDF here or viewed below.
