Day 1
Welcome to South Africa! Today you'll arrive in Cape Town and be met at the airport by your tripleaders Baron Wright and Shelley Bragg. You'll spend the evening getting toknow your fellow travellers at your welcome dinner.
Day 2
After breakfast you'll visit Guga Sthebe Arts and CultureCentre, housed in a brightly coloured building, which is dedicated to theempowerment of the people of Langa township. We'll enjoy lunch at the famous Cape Town Waterfront, withan introduction to their impressive environmentally sustainable initiatives.
In the afternoon, you'll take a boat to Robben Island - theprison and icon of struggle, freedom and hope for South Africa, made famous byNelson Mandela's imprisonment there. Weather permitting, we'll end the day watching a majesticsunset from the top of Table Mountain!
Day 3
Today you'll visit the District 6 Museum, where you'll learnabout the once thriving and diverse neighbourhood known as District Six thatwas destructed under the Apartheid regimes Group Areas Act, which led tosegregation and forced removals across the country. We'll then explore the historic neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap inthe centre of Cape Town and enjoy a Lekka Kombuis cooking class specialising intraditional Cape Malay cuisine.
We'll enjoy a dinner in the city with some down time inbetween for you to rest or visit Green Market Square.
Day 4
This morning you'll travel up the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, 50 km from Cape Town, to visit the family-owned Delheim Estate.
You'll be greeted by breathtaking views and true hospitality, and be treated to a wine tasting with young female black winemaker, Nongcebo Langa.
You'll spend the afternoon at Waterford, an estate that has made the conscious decision to farm only half of their land in an effort to protect the area’s animal life and natural vegetation.
We'll enjoy a Wine Drive Safari - a unique three-hour trip on a safari-type vehicle, through the 120-hectare Estate on the beautiful slopes of the Helderberg mountain. This will be followed by a wine tasting with snacks and a wine and chocolate tasting!
Day 5
Today we explore more of the Cape and travel to the Moravian mission station of Goedverwacht - nestled between the Piketberg Mountains.
You'll meet with a host family who you'll be spending the night with, being immersed in another way of life.
After some time to meet your hosts and settle in, you will spend the afternoon exploring your surroundings on a village walk with your host. You will experience the pride of the locals with their village and get to know their neighbours, friends and families. The village is situated in a fertile and well-watered valley and is characterised by gardens full of flowers, fruit and vegetables surrounded by a beautiful valley with the Bergriver, mountains and wetlands.
For dinner you will have a home cooked meal together with your host family and time to share stories.
Day 6
After breakfast with our hosts, we travel back to Cape Town, ready to explore another side of the mountains and city.
We'll visit the famous Penguin colony near Boulders Beach and have time for a dip in the sea if you can brave the cold water!
Day 7
Our final morning in Cape Town will take us on an experience in Kalk Bay, learning more about its diverse history. We'll then have time to explore the trendy area, its galleries and local stores.
This afternoon we head off to the City of Gold, Johannesburg!
Day 8
Today we will enjoy a short tour of Soweto - once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmund Tutu -and we will visit the local partner in Soweto that your trip has helped to fundraise for. We will learn more about their programs, enjoy a performance of traditional South African dance and have chance to meet with the inspiring founders of the organization.
We'll enjoy a fun farewell dinner in the big city!
Day 9
Today is the day we bid farewell, or for those that are taking the optional add on, we journey together to Umlani Game Reserve to experience South Africa's wildlife and the communities it exists in harmony with.
